Rev. Norman Shaw – “Holiness”

This weeks’ message from Rev. Norman Shaw takes a look at “Holiness” as one of the “5 Characteristics of a Christian.” He points out that this series of messages are not a “how to” manual, rather an exploration of what characteristics should be found in us as Christians.

You will find this message to be a blessings, challenge, and an encouragement to you as you “Journey with Jesus.”

I invite you to like this post, leave a comment or prayer request (I would love the opportunity to pray with you).  Also, I invite you to like the video on YouTube and to subscribe to the Keswick Chapel channel.

Blessings to you,

bulletproof

I have a confession…I am a coffee addict. Not a shocker for anyone who knows me.  I am also a flavored coffee creamer addict, too.  Until I heard of bulletproof coffee.  I began drinking my coffee this way after the New Year- you simply brew a cup of hot coffee and blend it in a […]

Along for the Climb

Tears of joy will stream down their faces, and I will lead them home with great care. They will walk beside quiet streams, and on smooth paths where they will not stumble. Jeremiah 31:9 In recent years I have become to enjoy the challenge of a good hike. It has become an aspiration among friends to […]

HE LIFTS US UP: In Your Presence

In Your Presence… is where I want to be. Where nothing else matters… just You and me. No condemnation… and absolutely no fear. Just total Peace… as I feel You near. For nothing compares… to being in Your Arms. When I am in Your Presence… and safe from all harm. For You are my Lord… […]

obedience in the little things

One evening I was standing at the checkout counter at a local pharmacy, and like countless times before- I was asked if I wanted to donate a dollar to a charity.  I usually said no, and honestly it was just a natural response.  But something was different this time. I had an entire conversation in […]

Always Thank God the Father…

I have a classmate from an online class that stays in contact with me.  Today’s post is the result of his challenge to me in that email.  He called my attention to Ephesians 5:20 and believing that God’s word alone can rightly divide itself in context, I backed up to start with verse 17.  I hope you enjoy this and I look forward to your comments.
Turning our attention to the passage you referenced yesterday, it is very familiar to me.  I read it though for the first time in the God’s Word translation and noticed a couple of “new” things.  Here’s the translation for easy reference: 17So don’t be foolish, but understand what the Lord wants. 18Don’t get drunk on wine, which leads to wild living. Instead, be filled with the Spirit 19by reciting psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs for your own good. Sing and make music to the Lord with your hearts. 20Always thank God the Father for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.

First; “Instead, be filled with the Spirit by reciting psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs…”.  The NIV says, “…speaking to one another…”  What caught my attention this time is the implication that being filled with the Spirit starts with reciting psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs to ourselves, first.  As with everything else in our lives, the spiritual, emotional, and physical all begin from within and work their way our in our actions, deeds, and words.  This is why is it so important that we constantly fill our heart, mind, and soul with God’s word and everything that will edify our spirit.  Jesus said, “…it’s what comes out of a person that makes him unclean.” God’s Word  The original question was about physical food and Jesus declared that what goes into the stomach doesn’t make us unclean.  But, what we take into our souls can corrupt.  So, we must be diligent to feed our souls those things which edify.
Second; “Always thank God the Father for everything in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”  I believe that Job said, both good and bad are from the LORD.  Meaning that HE allows both to come into our life.  Romans 8:28-29, “We know that all things work together for the good of those who love God—those whom He has called according to HIS plan.  This is true because He already knew His people and had already appointed them to have the same form as the image of His Son.  Therefore, His Son is the firstborn among many children.”  Everything that God allows to take place in our life has the sole purpose of bringing us into the image of Jesus.  So even though our life is filled with what we call “good” and “bad,” the best and worst of what takes place (when we are pursuing a relationship with Jesus) has purpose in God’s plan for our life and growth into the image of Jesus.  Every time that I think about this, I am reminded of Paul and Silas singing in the prison.  Arguably, to us, the worst of times for them and yet their joy in Jesus overflowed from their hearts and into the air.
I believe, if we follow God’s word and fill our spirit with only those things that edify and vocalize those same truths, we will soon find ourselves being able to live out verse 20.

First Thoughts….

I never cease being amazed at today’s technology.  The ease and speed involved in setting up and then launching a website or blog is just incredible.  I have a blog through another provider and yet to “like” or “comment” on WordPress sites, you need to be registered.  A great plan if you’re providing a service and looking to grow your base of customers.  So, what does this have to do with my blog?  Really, not a great deal, except that I find the process interesting and not unfamiliar.  Our society today, expects things fast and easy.  These two points sum up the way we’ve come to understand all things should be.  Fast and easy, immediate gratification with as little effort as possible.  For WordPress consumers, this is a perfect setup.  No huge effort and best of all, no financial expense.  For WordPress, increased customers will ultimately lead to greater exposure and web activity.  Then, they have now and will continue to gain customer’s who upgrade to their premium service and grow from there.  I’m not knocking WordPress here, just sharing my observation of the process.  It works, I’m here and so are you.

My goal is to share with you my Journey with Jesus.  Actually, what I expect to share will be the points that HE will lay on my heart.  In this life we need to share in the thoughts and experiences of other people who are looking to follow Jesus daily.  Our life is changed everyday in ways we don’t often realize and when we do notice, we’re hard pressed to explain the how, when or why.  My goal will be to place a new entry on a weekly basis.  I hope that what is shared here will be beneficial and that Jesus will be glorified by what is shared.  This being said, I find that my relationship with Jesus has been anything but fast, easy or without effort.  I believe everyone will agree; relationships don’t happen overnight, they aren’t easy (certainly not initially) and effort is essential.  While we may want the “fast food” kind of relationship with Jesus, it proves impossible and it’s just NOT good for us.

I welcome your thoughts and observations.  The most important part of this blog will always be Jesus Christ and what HE alone leads me to write here.  My desire is to glorify HIM and share what HE directs.  Between now and the next posting, I pray HIS Peace and Presence will fill your days and that you will know the Blessings that come with a fully engaged relationship with Jesus as Lord and Savior, Friend and Companion.

Blessings and Peace Always,

~Robert
